This is where it all started
and where I fell in love with mountains. New Year's Day on the summit of
Mount Marcy (5,344 feet) in New York State in 1985. As is normal for
winter summits, the wind & weather was rather cold and tempestuous.
This was my very first mountain hike ever, in any season, and it would
be another six years before really going back to the Adirondacks.
Gary on the right, me on the left. There was only one other person
in the entire High Peaks area on that day.
